RFQ
procurement
Request for Quotation — a structured document inviting suppliers to price a defined scope of work or supply.
RFP
procurement
Request for Proposal — solicits both a technical solution and a price, used when the scope is not yet fully defined.
EOI
procurement
Expression of Interest — a pre-qualification stage to identify capable suppliers before formal tendering.
FAT
procurement
Factory Acceptance Test — tests performed at the supplier's facility to confirm the equipment meets specification before shipment.
SAT
procurement
Site Acceptance Test — final testing performed at the buyer's site after installation, triggering acceptance and warranty start.
Incoterms
procurement
Standardized international commercial terms (EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP, DDP, etc.) defining who is responsible for shipping, insurance and duties.
Bill of Quantities
engineering
An itemized list of works, materials and quantities used to price a project consistently across bidders.
Capex
financing
Capital expenditure — one-time spending to acquire or upgrade physical assets.
Opex
financing
Operating expenditure — ongoing costs to run and maintain the asset.
TCO
financing
Total Cost of Ownership — capex plus opex plus disposal cost over the asset's useful life.
ECA
financing
Export Credit Agency — a national institution that insures or funds cross-border trade to support domestic exporters.
Buyer Credit
financing
A loan from a bank in the exporter's country to the foreign buyer, guaranteed by an ECA and used to pay the exporter on shipment.
Supplier Credit
financing
Deferred payment terms extended by the exporter to the buyer, typically refinanced with ECA cover.
Finance Lease
financing
A lease that transfers substantially all risks and rewards of ownership to the lessee.
Operating Lease
financing
A lease where residual value risk remains with the lessor; treated closer to a rental.
Refrigerant
cold-chain
The working fluid in a refrigeration cycle. Common industrial choices include ammonia (R717), CO₂ (R744) and HFC blends.
Ammonia (R717)
cold-chain
A highly efficient natural refrigerant widely used in industrial systems; requires strict safety design and trained operators.
Transcritical CO₂
cold-chain
A CO₂ refrigeration cycle that operates above CO₂'s critical point on the high-pressure side; common in modern medium-large systems.
Cascade System
cold-chain
A refrigeration architecture using two refrigerants in stacked cycles — typically CO₂ on the low side and ammonia on the high side.
Cold Chain
cold-chain
The temperature-controlled supply chain used to preserve perishable goods from production to consumption.
Reefer
cold-chain
A refrigerated container or trailer used to transport temperature-sensitive cargo.
Hatchability
poultry
The percentage of fertile eggs set that hatch as live chicks — a core hatchery KPI.
Setter
poultry
A hatchery machine that incubates eggs for the majority of the incubation period before transfer to a hatcher.
Hatcher
poultry
A hatchery machine used for the final days of incubation, through hatch.
Feed Conversion Ratio
poultry
The ratio of feed consumed to weight gained — a central efficiency metric across poultry, aquaculture and livestock.
Broiler
poultry
A chicken raised for meat production, typically slaughtered at 5–7 weeks.
Layer
poultry
A hen raised for commercial egg production.
RAS
aquaculture
Recirculating Aquaculture System — a land-based system that filters and reuses water for intensive fish farming.
Biofilter
aquaculture
A component of a RAS that removes ammonia from the water via nitrifying bacteria.
Stocking Density
aquaculture
The mass of fish per unit of water volume — a key driver of welfare, growth and system design.
Grading
aquaculture
Sorting fish by size to improve growth uniformity and reduce cannibalism or competition.
Seed Coating
seed
Applying protective or performance-enhancing layers (fungicides, nutrients, polymers) to seed surfaces before planting.
Germination Rate
seed
The percentage of seeds that produce viable seedlings under standard test conditions.
Cleaning Line
seed
A sequence of screens, aspirators and gravity tables used to remove impurities and off-size seeds.
